Most of us are familiar with the expression Steel Magnolia. That phrase describes Southern women who appear delicate and lady-like and demonstrate determination, inner strength, and perhaps a little stubbornness. There is another flower that might also describe these ladies, but the comparison is less obvious: the blue hydrangea.
The blue hydrangea is that lacy deep blue flower that wilts in the hot sun, needs plenty of water and shade, and whose flowers often fade by July. ...

In our house summer weekends have become very predictable. It is too hot to spend much time outside for long, so my husband and I run errands and exercise early, take naps in the afternoon, and watch too many movies on Netflix. We have watched so many that we are now revisiting the 1980s. Last weekend "Beetlejuice" was the highlight. Hmmm. Events
Now that the spring rush of events has passed us in a blur of activity, I can say thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the garage sale, golf tournament in Newnan, GA, and Pirates and Ninjas vs. Ovarian Cancer events all successes. Yes, they were time consuming and lots of hard work. Sometimes, we were figuring out how to do something as it happened. But everyone had passion and that is what is special. Tomorrow is the day to hit back and take a swing at ovarian cancer. Friends and family of Laura Crandall Brown who live in and around Newnan, Georgia have organized a charity golf tournament to benefit Laura's Foundation. What a tremendous undertaking! They have even scored an LPGA player! Jean Reynolds will be playing in her hometown and supporting her friends in this special tournament. Thank you, volunteers, and thank you, Jean, for calling attention to the event...

Where do I begin?
I suppose my journey is similar to that of the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation. We are both just getting started. The Foundation's began in December 2009. My first day, as Executive Director, was March 1. I had to hit the ground running.
Laura has many friends. She has inspired many individuals. She motivated her large family, plenty of strangers, and a community of caring people. All of these folks are...
